These books made my life.

Yesterday morning I woke to my lovely boyfriend telling me that he had an adventure for us planned. Little did I know that it would turn out to be the best day of my life.
Now, when Shawn mentioned that he had an adventure planned I didn’t think too much of it because we try to regularly explore new places and try fun new things. We started off the morning by going to our favorite breakfast place, Bogart’s. Bogart’s is the cutest little place tucked away in a shopping center where you probably would not give it a second glance. The place is full of charm, from the friendly regulars to the Humphrey Bogart memorabilia on the wall. Shawn took me there very early into our dating and we have been going back every weekend ever since.
After breakfast we began our drive to the secret location. On the way there Shawn had a playlist of songs playing in the car. The songs provided me with a nice trip down memory lane. He played songs that included some of our first concerts together, our favorite show songs, and of course the Beatles. Songs included Saw Her Standing There, The Suit Song from How I Met Your Mother, and many more.
We finally arrived at our destination, the Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens. This place is so special to me. I surprised Shawn by taking him there on our second year anniversary. We loved it and now we were back for a second time. When you first enter the property there is a gorgeous lake that sits outside of the Gardens. On that lake is a small pavillion that rests right on the water with a gorgeous view. Here is where Shawn set up a romantic picnic. (And no this is not where he proposes).
After our delicious picnic we entered the park. This whole time Shawn had a backpack with him. I began to wonder if this would be the day that he would propose. I told myself that if Shawn took that backpack into the museum and gardens, I was probably being proposed to. I didn’t see any way he could have a ring box in the pockets of his shorts. Low and behold we get to the museum and the backpack stays in the car. As we enter the gardens I joke with Shawn saying, “You know I thought you were going to propose today for some reason”. Shawn replies with, “Nope, sorry I don’t have the ring yet”. We dismiss the topic and continue to enjoy our day.
As we continue to walk through the park, Shawn sits me down on this beautiful bench in the middle of the gardens and begins to play Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” from one of my favorite movies, Say Anything. He holds his phone over his head as if it were a boombox, just like in the movie, and then gets down on one knee. Needless to say I was bawling. I immediately said yes without letting him ask! We then called our families and shared our news. I found out that not only had Shawn asked my parents for their permission but that he had written a speech in spanish and spoke to my grandparents to ask them for my hand in marriage as well. Anyone who knows me knows what that means to me. I am so incredibly luck to have this man in my life.
Last but not least, what would be an engagement story without details about the ring! The ring is everything I could ever have imagined. It is simple but elegant. Not too flashy but stunning accompanied by a beautiful inscription along the inside. However, the most important part of the ring are the stones. The stones belong to my grandma and were from her wedding ring. This ring is the perfect combinations of old and new. When my grandparents left Cuba the government stole all of their jewelry including my grandma’s wedding ring. My grandpa swore to her that he would work as hard as he could when they got to America so that she could have a wedding ring, and he did. Those are the stones that now sit in my engagement ring.
While this proposal was more than I could ever imagine I am just so thrilled to be engaged to the man of my dreams. Shawn is all that I have ever wanted. There is no one I would rather laugh with, cry with, dance with, clean with, fight with and more. I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life him. Thank you all so much for all of the texts, calls, and facebook posts. It means more to us than you will ever know. Below are some pictures from our special day!!

I’ve been more into health and fitness. I’ve tried losing weight and getting into shape before but for some reason or another constantly found myself giving up. This time around feels different. I’m trying to really look at it as a lifestyle change. For the first time EVER I have stopped drinking any kind of soda and have stopped eating fast food. I can’t even think of the last time I had McDonald’s and that for me is huge progress. I’m down ten pounds so far but more than that I am starting to feel happy with myself again and am proud of the progress I’ve made!

Boston I love you. I’ll be back soon. #boston #southstation #city (Taken with Instagram)
I cannot wait to find myself in this beautiful city next year for my graduation. Have you ever just felt you were supposed to live somewhere without really knowing much about the place? Boston is that city for me.
